Dominican
Republic gets ticket to semifinals
MAYAGUEZ, Puerto Rico, July 20, 2010 – Dominican Republic
advanced to the semifinals of the women’s volleyball tournament
at the XXI Central American and Caribbean Games after claiming a
3-0 (25-14, 25-14, 25-21) victory over Trinidad & Tobago and
winning top place in Pool A.
Veterans Annerys Vargas and Milagros Cabral topped the winners
with 12 and 10 points respectively and Lisvel Eve contributed 8
to the victory. Trinidadian Krystle Esdelle recorded 8 points
for the defeated team.
“It has been our lowest game for us in terms of production but
Trinidad & Tobago is a very tall team so we had to find our way
to come through against their high blocking,” Cabral said.
“I don’t know how many errors we made with our serves but other
than that we had a good fight against a team like Dominican
Republic,” Esdelle said.
“Tomorrow we have a day off so we are going to train hard and
study the team we are going to meet in the semifinals on
Thursday,” Dominican Republic’s coach Marcos Kwiek said.
“We didn’t have that kind of problems with our serves in the
recent competitions and we have been training in our serves for
more than one hour today. But these things just happens,”
Trinidad & Tobago’s coach Francisco Cruz said.
